I've fished this lake 10 years, I agree the fishing is not what it used to be. We were on the lake the 1st week of June the numbers were decent but the size of the crappies were much smaller than they were, most fish were 8-9 inches. Before Lake Delton emptied which seems to be the same time when Crystal really started to rise we were catching 11-13 inchers. Same goes for the gills all on the small side compared to what it used to be. I know a lake can be affected by the fishing pressure which can result in smaller fish but this lake was relieved of alot of that pressure because of the public launch being unusable for a long time. What is really disappointing is quite a few fish had sores on them, are these fish dangerous to eat I didn't keep any of them but some guys in our group did keep them. I guess we will know when they eat them, they'll probably develop sores all over them!

I hate to admit it but the fishing has gone down hill in recent years. Not sure how much those ponds have to do with it, but you would not believe the amount of wildlife that thrives in those things. Turtles, muskrats, frogs, ducks and geese all seem to love it. Even saw a 6'' bullhead on the bank, not to mention the people that have gone swimming in them.

I too miss this lake. It really used to be crystal clear. Contrary to popular belief this lake has been growing at least since my grandmother was a child. The big snows and wet springs in the recent past didn't help, but they were not the cause. The aquifer has been rising in this area long before the homes were built. Remember all the standing timber way out in the lake? That was long before '08. There are stumps rooted in 8 feet of water. A similar problem happened to Fish Lake years ago. The DNR shut that mess down also. Now it's a nice park. It's a shame they have waited this long but I know legal matters take time. I can't believe they let children swim in there. Look at the sick looking water, and the sick looking fish. Gross. I believe lakes belong to the public and I believe fighting nature is a waste of the publics money. I would like to say thanks to the WDNR. Would love to see it clear up some day!

Used to LOVE to fish Crystal for bass in the summer and panfish in the winter.

Now I'm afraid to catch brown trout that have escaped the campground ponds....

Puke

Feel bad for all who own property on this once great lake.

Sad

I agree, it is a dirty shame this lake has ended up in this condition. Once upon a time it was one of the best panfish destinations in the state. But because of greed and negligence it is no longer a lake I prefer to fish. I have a friend who lives right on Crystal and he dosn't even want fish it anymore. What a sad state of affairs.
